The instrument shares the same core mechanical principle: a dual-pointed cowhorn beak design that engages the buccal furcation and palatal root of upper molars at the root trunk level, eliminating dependence on the crown for grip and force transfer.
As closing pressure is applied, the pointed cowhorn tips drive apically into the furcation — the grip becomes progressively more secure the deeper the beaks seat. This is the key mechanical advantage of the cowhorn design over standard forceps: it is self-reinforcing, meaning the harder the operator closes, the more firmly the instrument holds. Standard flat or rounded beak forceps can loosen or slip when crown structure is irregular or absent — the cowhorn design does not have this vulnerability.
