The ODU 11/12 After Explorer is selected specifically for clinicians treating advanced periodontal disease, where pocket depths exceed 5 mm and the standard ODU 11/12’s terminal shank length is interfered with by the crown or surrounding tissue before it reaches the base of the pocket.
The defining modification is a terminal shank 3 mm longer than the standard 11/12, which gives effortless access into deeper pockets without the shank binding against the tooth crown. The working tips themselves retain the same fine, flexible, curved geometry as the standard version.
Clinically, the After version is used during advanced periodontal therapy to confirm that no subgingival calculus is left behind in hard-to-reach root flutings and furcations at depths a standard-length explorer cannot fully access. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
