NiTi Three Jaw Pliers

CAD 179.99

SKU: RT158

NiTi three jaw pliers are purpose-built for contouring nickel titanium archwire, a wire type that behaves differently under bending force than conventional stainless steel and requires an instrument matched to its mechanical properties. The three rounded jaw design spreads contact force across multiple points on the wire rather than concentrating it at a single pinch point, which is important for NiTi wire because excessive localized stress can disrupt its shape memory and superelastic behavior. Wire capacity is up to .020″ (.51 mm), and the instrument is intended for NiTi wire exclusively rather than general-purpose contouring. Medical-grade stainless steel, autoclavable.

SKU:RT158

Nickel titanium archwire is used throughout orthodontic treatment for its superelastic and shape memory properties, qualities that allow it to apply continuous light force as it gradually returns toward its programmed shape. These same properties make NiTi wire sensitive to instruments that were designed around the mechanical behavior of conventional stainless steel. A plier with sharp-edged or two-point contact jaws can introduce a permanent kink or localized work-hardening in NiTi wire at the bend point, a defect that disrupts the superelastic recovery the wire is meant to provide and effectively converts that section of the wire into a fixed bend rather than a spring.

NiTi three jaw pliers are built specifically to avoid this. The three rounded jaw surfaces distribute contact force across a wider span of the wire than a two-point pinch, reducing the concentrated stress at any single location. This allows the clinician to make light contouring adjustments, such as easing an arch form curve or adjusting wire position around a bracket, without permanently altering the wire’s underlying shape memory characteristics in that segment.

Wire capacity tops out at .020″ (.51 mm), matched to the gauge range where NiTi wire is most commonly used during initial alignment and leveling. This instrument is intended for NiTi wire specifically, and stainless steel wire of comparable gauge can also be worked with it, though a general-purpose mini three jaw plier remains the better choice when NiTi-specific handling is not required. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.

Product Features

  • NiTi three jaw pliers distribute contact force across three points, reducing the risk of permanent kinking or work-hardening in nickel titanium wire
  • Rounded jaw surfaces designed to preserve the superelastic and shape memory behavior of NiTi archwire during light contouring
  • Handles wire up to .020″ (.51 mm), matched to common initial-phase NiTi archwire gauges
  • Suited to fine arch form adjustment and positional correction without converting the wire segment into a fixed bend
  • Compatible with stainless steel wire of equivalent gauge when NiTi-specific handling is not required
  • Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
