The Olsen Hegar Needle Holder Tungsten Carbide 14cm (5.5 inches) combines the workflow efficiency of the standard Olsen Hegar combination instrument with the enhanced jaw grip performance of Tungsten Carbide (TC) inserts. The TC jaw faces provide stronger needle retention with less hand-closing pressure, and their harder surface maintains grip texture far longer than standard stainless steel jaws — making this version the preferred choice for high-volume dental practices and surgeons who suture frequently. The built-in scissor blades allow immediate suture cutting without instrument exchange. At 14 cm, it covers anterior to premolar suturing zones across both arches.

The Olsen Hegar Needle Holder Tungsten Carbide 14cm is a performance-upgraded version of the standard Olsen Hegar, combining two clinical advantages: the built-in suture scissors of the Olsen Hegar design and the superior jaw grip of Tungsten Carbide inserts. For clinicians who perform a high volume of suturing procedures, both features together make a meaningful difference in daily workflow efficiency and instrument longevity.

The Tungsten Carbide jaw inserts feature a cross-hatched diamond surface pattern. Because TC is substantially harder than stainless steel, the jaw faces hold the suture needle securely with noticeably less hand-closing force. This is particularly noticeable during extended surgical cases where hand fatigue from repeated jaw squeezing can compromise suturing accuracy in the later stages of a procedure. TC jaw inserts also retain their surface texture through thousands of suturing cycles — far outlasting standard SS jaw serrations that gradually smooth out under repeated use and autoclaving.

At 14 cm (5.5 inches), this instrument covers the most commonly sutured intraoral zone — anterior teeth through first premolar regions in both arches. It is long enough to reach into the premolar area without crowding the handle against the lips, while remaining short enough for comfortable anterior use in most adult patients.

The integrated scissor blades on the shank allow suture tails to be cut immediately after knot completion — eliminating the need to put the needle holder down and pick up a separate suture scissor. This advantage is compounded in the TC version because the jaws perform more consistently over a longer working life, meaning the instrument pair — needle holder and cutter — stay functionally matched for longer before requiring replacement.

TC Handle Identification: Gold-coloured ring handles distinguish this TC version from standard stainless steel Olsen Hegar instruments in a mixed tray.

Clinical Indications: Anterior-to-premolar zone suturing, extraction socket closure, implant site closure, flap suturing in the anterior and mid-arch area, biopsy wound closure, and high-volume suturing practices.

Material & Build: Stainless steel body with Tungsten Carbide jaw inserts. Autoclave-compatible at 134°C (273°F). Overall length: 14 cm / 5.5 inches.
