Steigmann Periosteal Splitter, Blunt Spade Tip
CAD 89.99
Steigmann Periosteal Splitter is a distinct instrument from a standard periosteal elevator: instead of lifting periosteum off bone, it separates the periosteum from the overlying mucosa in layers. The spade-shaped working end is deliberately blunt rather than sharp, so it splits tissue planes apart with controlled pressure instead of cutting through them. This layer separation is what allows a flap to stretch and close under tension-free primary closure after bone grafting, without needing releasing incisions. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable. It fits the same general size and use category as other periosteal instruments already familiar to surgical teams.
Steigmann Periosteal Splitter is selected for split-flap techniques where the goal is separating mucosa from periosteum in layers, not lifting periosteum off the underlying bone the way a standard elevator does.
The defining feature is the spade-shaped working end, deliberately blunt rather than sharp, which lets the clinician split tissue planes apart with controlled pressure instead of a cutting action that risks perforation.
Clinically, this instrument is used to prepare a flap for tension-free primary closure after guided bone regeneration and grafting procedures, without relying on releasing incisions. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
