The 88L is a sided instrument, it is specifically angled and offset for the upper left quadrant. Using a sided instrument ensures the beak points engage the correct anatomical landmarks on left-side molars with the natural hand position of the operator, improving control and reducing the risk of slippage during buccal and palatal luxation movements.

88L Nevius Upper Left Cowhorn Forceps are designed specifically for removing maxillary left first and second molars. The cowhorn beak configuration features two pointed tips, one seating into the buccal furcation and one engaging the palatal root area , creating a firm, furcation-level grip that drives extraction forces directly into the root trunk rather than relying on crown contact alone.

This furcation-level engagement is a significant mechanical advantage when extracting upper molars with short or fractured crowns, heavily restored teeth, or cases where crown integrity is uncertain. Because the beaks engage below the crown at the root furcation, the risk of crown fracture during the extraction procedure is substantially reduced compared to standard beak designs that seat higher on the tooth.

88L vs. 10S: The 10S is a universal upper molar forceps with one pointed and one rounded beak — suitable for both sides. The 88L is sided and features a dual cowhorn (both pointed) beak, preferred when furcation-level engagement is needed or when crown condition makes standard seating unreliable.
