Mosquito hemostat curved dental forceps are the fine-tip member of the hemostat family, designed for situations where a Kelly or larger pattern would be too broad at the jaw base to enter the available tissue space cleanly. The 4.75″ (12 cm) length and tapering jaw geometry make this instrument particularly useful in three recurring dental surgical scenarios: clamping a small bleeding vessel in a narrow extraction socket before suturing, grasping a small soft tissue tag or granuloma fragment during curettage, and retrieving small bone chips or foreign body fragments from a confined wound space.
The fully serrated jaw carries interlocking serrations along the entire jaw length, which is the Halsted mosquito pattern’s key distinction from the half-serrated Kelly. Full serrations increase the grip surface area for very small objects and fine tissue structures that might slip between the distal-only serrations of a Kelly jaw. The fine tapering tip enters narrow tissue planes and the cervical margin of a socket or flap without requiring the clinician to spread tissue unnecessarily to create instrument access.
The curved jaw configuration improves access to vessels and tissue fragments around contours, bends in the socket wall, and the distal undercuts of molar extraction sites. For forward-facing or anterior access, the straight version provides the same jaw geometry with a direct approach angle. The compact 4″ length is well suited to intraoral work where a shorter instrument is more maneuverable than the 5″ Kelly pattern. Medical-grade stainless steel, autoclavable.
