Rigid Gracey 11/12 Curette is selected for mesial surfaces of posterior teeth carrying moderate to heavy calculus, where the tight interproximal contact demands an area-specific shank and a standard-flex instrument would bend under the pressure needed to remove the deposit.

The defining feature is a thicker, stronger shank than the standard 11/12, built on the same multi-angled shank curvature and single 70-degree offset cutting edge, so the blade still slides into the mesial embrasure and follows the root surface the same way a standard 11/12 would.

Clinically, the Rigid 11/12 is used for gross scaling, root debridement, and periodontal surgery on the mesial surfaces of premolars and molars, almost always paired with the Rigid 13/14 for matching distal coverage.
