The Spade Luxator Straight is the most versatile luxation instrument in the spade series, covering the full premolar-to-premolar zone in both arches. Teeth in this region – upper and lower incisors, canines, and first and second premolars – often have single, conical, or slightly flattened roots that respond well to straight apical luxation. The straight blade allows the clinician to apply direct inward and downward pressure without any angular deviation, making it easier to control the direction of force.
The spade-shaped working end is designed to fit snugly into the narrow PDL space around anterior and premolar roots. A gentle but firm push-and-twist motion breaks down the periodontal ligament fibers incrementally. This “luxation before elevation” approach significantly reduces the physical force required during elevator use, resulting in cleaner socket walls, less risk of alveolar plate fracture, and faster postoperative healing.
Clinical Indications:Â Extraction of upper and lower incisors, canines, and premolars (premolar-to-premolar zone in both arches); also useful for root tip retrieval in the anterior segment.
Material & Build: High-grade stainless steel with a polished finish for smooth tissue entry. The handle is designed for a comfortable palm grip during apical pressure application. Autoclave-sterilizable at 134°C (273°F).
Blade Specifications: Straight spade-shaped blade, approximately 3 mm blade width, tapered tip for PDL penetration, overall length approximately 18–19 cm (7–7.5 inches).
The Spade Luxator Straight is highly recommended as a starter luxator for dental students and a routine workhorse instrument for general dentists and oral surgeons dealing with anterior and premolar extractions daily.
