The Gardner bone chisel 2 extends the flat-tip mono-bevel geometry of the #1 to a 4 mm blade width, providing more bone surface coverage per stroke for preparation tasks where the 3 mm #1 blade requires too many instrument passes to complete the targeted bone surface work efficiently. At 4 mm, the #2 Gardner is the standard flat-tip working size for routine bone surface preparation in extraction and implant sites across the posterior arch, where the bone surfaces being contoured are typically 4 to 6 mm in width and a flat-tip mono-bevel of 4 mm can address most of the target surface in two or three working strokes rather than the four or five needed with the 3 mm blade.
The flat tip is preferred over the pyramid (#5) or diamond wedge (#6) tip geometries when the bone surface is relatively flat and accessible, and where the clinical goal is shaving rather than aggressive engagement of dense irregular bone. Medical-grade stainless steel, autoclavable.
Product Features
- Gardner bone chisel 2 flat-tip 4 mm mono-bevel provides greater bone surface coverage per stroke than the 3 mm #1 for moderate bone preparation sites
- Flat tip for clean straight shaving on accessible cortical bone surfaces
- Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
#2 vs #1: One mm wider at 4 mm vs 3 mm. The #2 covers more bone surface per stroke and is suited to sites where the #1’s narrow blade would require excessive strokes for complete preparation, but where the site is still too confined for the 4 mm instruments with more aggressive tip geometry (#5 or #6).
