34 Straight Seldin Elevator is built around a pointed blade on a straight shank, designed to reach the apical third of a root rather than working from the crown down.
The narrow, slightly curved tip slips into the periodontal ligament space alongside the root surface and applies focused pressure close to the apex, which is the situation a Seldin pattern is chosen for over a wider gouge-style elevator. Keeping the shank straight in line with the handle preserves tactile feedback, which matters when working near a root apex or trying to feel for a loose root tip fragment rather than solid bone.
Clinically, it is used for apical root elevation, luxating stubborn single roots, and assisting root tip retrieval once the crown has already been removed. Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
