88R Nevius Upper Right Cowhorn Forceps are designed specifically for removing maxillary right first and second molars. The dual-pointed cowhorn beaks engage the buccal furcation and palatal root at root trunk level — bypassing crown contact and delivering extraction forces directly into the root complex.
The 88R is a sided instrument, its beak offset is angled specifically for the upper right quadrant, ensuring correct anatomical alignment in the operator’s natural hand position. Highly effective on short-crown, heavily restored, or endodontically treated upper right molars. Stainless steel, fully autoclavable.
88R Nevius Upper Right Cowhorn Forceps are the right-side counterpart to the 88L — a sided cowhorn extraction forceps designed for maxillary right first and second molars. The instrument shares the same core mechanical principle: a dual-pointed cowhorn beak design that engages the buccal furcation and palatal root of upper molars at the root trunk level, eliminating dependence on the crown for grip and force transfer.
As closing pressure is applied, the pointed cowhorn tips drive apically into the furcation — the grip becomes progressively more secure the deeper the beaks seat. This is the key mechanical advantage of the cowhorn design over standard forceps: it is self-reinforcing, meaning the harder the operator closes, the more firmly the instrument holds. Standard flat or rounded beak forceps can loosen or slip when crown structure is irregular or absent — the cowhorn design does not have this vulnerability.
The 88R is specifically angled for the upper right quadrant. The beak offset geometry ensures the tips align naturally with the buccal and palatal anatomy of right-side upper molars when held in the operator’s normal grip — providing controlled, directed luxation without requiring compensatory wrist rotation. Using the correctly sided instrument reduces both operator fatigue and the risk of instrument slippage during the procedure.
