The Crile Wood Needle Holder is a standard ring-handled suturing clamp with a box-lock mechanism, delivering reliable jaw alignment and consistent closing force during suture placement. While it shares the general form of other ring-handle needle holders, the Crile Wood is distinguished by its relatively smooth jaw faces – a design feature that makes it less likely to damage finer suture materials during needle grasping. This is particularly useful in procedures where 4-0 or 5-0 sutures are used and thread integrity matters for knot security.
At 15 cm (6 inches), it is slightly longer than standard dental needle holders, giving the operator better reach into posterior regions of the mouth without the handle crowding the lip commissure. The ratchet locking mechanism provides multiple lock positions, allowing the clinician to set the jaw pressure appropriate to the needle size in use.
The ring-handle design gives the dentist or oral surgeon familiar two-hand control, with the thumb and ring finger in the handle rings and the index finger along the shank for instrument guidance and stability. This is the standard grip used in most surgical training, making the Crile Wood a natural choice for dental students and residents becoming proficient in suturing technique.
Clinical Indications: Oral surgical wound closure, post-extraction suturing, mucoperiosteal flap closure, periodontal surgery suturing, and implant site closure where longer reach into the posterior arch is needed.
Suture Compatibility: Suitable for 3-0, 4-0, and 5-0 sutures; smooth jaws are less damaging to fine suture threads.
Material & Build: High-grade stainless steel with a box-lock joint for lasting jaw alignment. Autoclave-compatible at 134°C (273°F). Overall length: 15 cm / 6 inches.
