The Adson Micro Tissue Forceps 1×2 is the toothed version of the Adson thumb forceps family and serves an entirely different function from the smooth or serrated dressing versions. Where dressing forceps handle materials without gripping tissue firmly, the 1×2 toothed tip is specifically designed to grasp and stabilize soft tissue wound edges for suture needle passage, flap manipulation, and tissue repositioning during intraoral surgical procedures.
The 1×2 tooth pattern means one jaw has a single central tooth that interlocks with two teeth on the opposing jaw when closed. This interdigitating arrangement spreads the gripping force across three contact points rather than concentrating it at a single tip, reducing the risk of tissue tearing while still providing a firm enough hold to stabilize the tissue against suture needle resistance. The “Micro” designation refers to the finer, more delicate tip profile compared to standard Adson tissue forceps – making this version more appropriate for thin gingival tissue, papillae, and flap margins in periodontal and implant procedures where tissue damage at the wound edge affects healing quality.
1×2 Micro Teeth vs. Standard Adson Teeth:
• Micro 1×2 teeth: Finer, smaller tooth profile – for delicate gingival tissue, thin flap margins, papillae, and microsurgical wound edges
• Standard 1×2 teeth: Larger tooth profile – for thicker mucosal tissue, tougher tissue grasping in general oral surgery wound closure
The Micro version causes less tissue crush injury at wound edges – a meaningful advantage in periodontal and aesthetic implant cases where scar-free healing is a priority.
The spring-open Adson frame keeps the forceps light and responsive. The tips close with a simple pinch between thumb and index finger, and the spring opens them again on release without requiring the clinician to actively pull the jaws apart – reducing hand fatigue during multi-suture cases where the forceps is used repeatedly.
Clinical Indications: Wound edge stabilization during suturing, gingival flap handling and repositioning, papilla manipulation in periodontal microsurgery, connective tissue graft placement, soft tissue biopsy handling, and any intraoral procedure requiring firm but low-trauma tissue grasping at suture sites.
Suturing Support Role: As the needle holder drives the suture needle through tissue, the Adson Micro 1×2 holds the wound edge steady – the two instruments work as a pair in virtually every oral surgical suturing case.
