The Spade Luxator Mesial Angle is an angled dental luxation instrument designed to access the mesial and bucco-mesial aspects of maxillary premolars, molars, and root tips. The mesially angled spade blade enters the periodontal ligament space on the front surface of the upper arch teeth, where a standard straight luxator lacks the right geometry to apply effective force. By severing mesial PDL fibers first, the tooth becomes progressively mobile, simplifying the overall extraction. Made from durable, high-grade stainless steel with a corrosion-resistant finish, this instrument is autoclave-sterilizable and built for repeated clinical use.
The Spade Luxator Mesial Angle is a critical instrument for oral surgeons and dentists managing maxillary premolar and molar extractions where the mesial root surface requires targeted luxation. Upper molars, in particular, have well-developed mesial roots that are closely adapted to the surrounding alveolar bone, making mesial-direction PDL fiber separation a necessary first step before using elevators or extraction forceps.
The mesially angled blade is positioned so that when the handle is held in a standard pen or palm grip, the working tip naturally angles toward the mesial surface of upper posterior teeth. Inserting the blade into the mesio-buccal sulcus and applying a controlled apical push ruptures the mesial PDL fibers progressively. This step dramatically reduces the resistance encountered during elevation, lowering the risk of root fracture and buccal plate damage.
The instrument also works well for the bucco-mesial approach on maxillary molars where the mesio-buccal root is the dominant anchoring root. In root tip retrieval scenarios, the mesial angle helps the clinician steer the tip apically and around curved root anatomy that straight instruments cannot follow.
