1 Palti Osteotome, 2.7mm is part of a four-instrument graduated set built around Dr. Ady Palti’s bone-spreading technique for implant site preparation, used as an alternative or complement to conventional osteotomy drilling.
Rather than removing bone, the 2.7mm tip laterally displaces and compacts trabecular bone as it is advanced into the site. As the first instrument in the set, it opens the initial osteotomy once the pilot hole has been prepared. This condensing action increases bone density immediately adjacent to the future implant site while preserving ridge width, which matters most in narrow ridges or softer bone where a drilled osteotomy can leave the walls too thin or too loose for strong primary stability.
The shaft is marked at 7, 10, 13, 15, and 18mm so depth can be confirmed visually during the procedure, and the fixed handle gives a solid, direct feel for mallet or hand-pressure technique. Used in sequence with the other three Palti diameters, working from narrowest to widest, this instrument is reached for as the first step once the pilot hole is ready.
As a graduated starter set, the four Palti diameters are generally the first bone-spreading instruments a practice stocks, since the 2.7mm to 4.2mm range covers most single-tooth and short-span edentulous sites without needing a wider or specialty diameter. Periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and general dentists placing their own implants reach for this technique specifically in cases where the ridge is narrow or the bone is softer Type III or IV, where preserving buccal and lingual plate width is as important as achieving primary stability. Manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
