The 11 Straight Bernard Elevator is selected at the start of an atraumatic extraction sequence, when the goal is to sever the periodontal ligament and begin loosening the tooth before any forceps or luxator is introduced. Also referred to as a syndesmotome, the instrument is built specifically for this ligament-severing role rather than for bulk root elevation, so it is typically the first instrument used, not the last.
The 3.6 mm concave tip is shaped to follow the curvature of the root surface as it is worked down into the periodontal ligament space, and the straight shank keeps the tip aligned with the long axis of anterior teeth where the extraction path runs in a single, direct line. This straight alignment is what distinguishes the 11 from the contra-angled 6 Right and 7 Left, which are built for posterior teeth instead.
Clinically, the 11 Straight is used on incisors, canines, and other anterior teeth to sever the ligament circumferentially before forceps are seated, reducing the extraction force required and helping to preserve the buccal plate and surrounding alveolar bone. Single-ended, medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, autoclavable.
Product Features
- 11 Straight Bernard Elevator 3.6 mm concave tip severs the periodontal ligament on anterior teeth before extraction
- Straight shank aligns directly with the long axis of anterior teeth for controlled insertion
- Functions as a periotome, loosening the tooth atraumatically ahead of forceps application
- Reduces the extraction force required and helps preserve the buccal plate and alveolar bone
- Concave tip geometry follows the natural curvature of the root surface
- First instrument in the 11 Straight, 6 Right, 7 Left Bernard set for a full-arch extraction sequence
- Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
11 Straight vs 6 Right / 7 Left Bernard Elevator: All three share the same 3.6 mm concave tip and syndesmotome function, but the 11 Straight is built for anterior teeth where a straight line of insertion reaches the periodontal ligament directly. The 6 Right and 7 Left carry a contra-angled shank for posterior teeth, where a straight instrument cannot align with the ligament space.
Set of Three: 11 Straight, 6 Right, 7 Left Bernard Elevators: The 11 Straight, 6 Right, and 7 Left Bernard Elevators are designed as a complete set for full-arch periodontal ligament severing and small root elevation. The 11 Straight covers anterior teeth, while the 6 Right and 7 Left provide contra-angled access to posterior teeth on each side of the arch. Stock all three for complete coverage before extraction.
