Ligature wire management is a recurring task across every orthodontic adjustment appointment. After tying stainless steel ligature wire around bracket wings, the protruding twisted tail must be cut short and tucked, a step that requires a cutter with a tip narrow enough to enter the interproximal space, fine enough to position flush against the bracket without engaging adjacent brackets or teeth, and sharp enough to cut cleanly through the twisted wire without distorting it.
The Micro Cutter Pin & Ligature provides the slim profile required for this. The ultra-slim body and pointed tapered tips allow the clinician to direct the cutting edge to exactly where the wire needs to be severed, close to the bracket wing, at the base of a ligature knot, or at the tip of a small-gauge auxiliary spring, without the bulkier body of a standard-size cutter blocking the approach angle. This is particularly relevant in the anterior region, where interproximal spaces are narrow, and in the posterior region, where the buccal tube limits how far distal the cutter can reach without bending.
Wire capacity is up to .012″ (.30 mm), appropriate for standard stainless steel ligature wire, soft wire pins, and fine auxiliary wire components. The cutting edges are hardened to maintain sharpness through the volume of ligature cuts expected in a high-patient-day orthodontic practice. The instrument is not designed for archwire cutting or hard wire sections; a separate hard wire cutter or distal end cutter handles those tasks. Stainless steel construction, fully autoclavable, standard handle length. For patients with limited mouth opening or when reaching second molar brackets requires additional instrument length, the Micro Cutter Pin & Ligature, Long provides extended reach with the same tip geometry.
