1C Coupland Gouge Elevator, 4.3mm Wide Tip is the first instrument reached for in a Coupland elevator set, built to start tooth movement before the socket has any working space.
The blade is concave and gouge-shaped rather than pointed, and at 4.3mm it is the widest of the three Coupland tip sizes. That width lets it wedge into the periodontal ligament space and apply force across a broad section of the root at once, expanding the socket and loosening the tooth so that a narrower elevator or forceps can complete the extraction with less resistance.
Clinically, it suits single-rooted teeth, wide root faces, and the opening phase of most routine extractions, where a narrow pick has nothing to grip until the socket has already been expanded. Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
