2C Coupland Gouge Elevator is the mid-width member of the Coupland elevator series, used once the widest instrument (1C) has already created initial movement in the socket.
Its concave gouge tip is narrower than the 1C, letting it advance further into the space that has already been opened and continue expanding the periodontal ligament at a deeper level. This step-down approach, wide tip first and progressively narrower after, is the working principle of a Coupland set: each instrument follows the space the one before it created rather than forcing a single blade the entire way through an unyielding socket.
Clinically, it is used on premolars, smaller single-rooted teeth, and as the middle stage of larger extractions once the 1C has done the initial work. Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
