The Kramer-Nevins bone chisel 3 is a mono-bevel single-ended instrument built for a specific step in surgical tooth extraction: widening a split that has already been initiated with a bi-bevel splitting chisel such as the Wakefield 1W or 2W. Rather than creating the initial division, the long, sharp mono-bevel blade is inserted into the existing split and used to lever it open further, concentrating force on a single beveled face to direct the widening in a controlled direction.
At 7.5 mm blade width, the #3 is sized to open a substantial gap in a single working pass once the initial split is established, reducing the number of instrument exchanges needed to complete segment separation. The long blade profile gives the clinician additional leverage compared to a shorter chisel when working in a split that has already partially opened.
Clinically, the #3 follows rather than replaces a bi-bevel splitting instrument, and it shares its 7.5 mm blade width with the #75 Kramer-Nevins used for bone grafting, though the two serve entirely different procedures. Single-ended, medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, autoclavable.
Product Features
- 3 Kramer-Nevins Bone Chisel 7.5 mm mono-bevel widens an existing tooth split for controlled segment removal
- Long, sharp mono-bevel blade directs widening force to one side of an already-initiated split
- Used after, not instead of, a bi-bevel splitting chisel such as the Wakefield 1W or 2W
- 7.5 mm blade width opens a substantial gap in a single working pass
- Single-ended design for directional control during surgical extraction
- Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
3 vs 75 Kramer-Nevins: Same 7.5 mm blade width, but the #3 is a mono-bevel instrument for widening an existing tooth split during extraction, while the #75 is used for bone grafting wall compaction and exostosis or tori removal. Do not substitute one for the other despite the shared blade width.
