Austin Retractor is built with a compact, notched blade set at a right angle to its handle, shaped to hold back a mucoperiosteal flap or cheek tissue without crowding a surgical field the way a larger retractor blade would.
The small forked notch at the tip catches the edge of a reflected flap and holds it securely in place, resisting slippage during procedures where an assistant is simultaneously managing suction or handing instruments. Because the blade sits at a right angle to the handle, the handle itself stays out of the direct line of sight to the surgical site, keeping the visual field as open as possible.
Clinically, it is used to retract flaps and soft tissue during periodontal surgery, implant placement, and other procedures requiring a clear, unobstructed surgical field. Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable.
