The 36/37 Back-Action DE Chisel is a periodontal bone chisel built around a pull-stroke design, distinguishing it from the push-stroke Gardner, Chandler, and Kramer-Nevins bone chisels used for ridge shaving, splitting, and grafting. The back-action blade geometry is drawn toward the clinician rather than pushed away, which allows bone to be removed from areas adjacent to the tooth root without the trauma risk that a push-stroke instrument can carry in tight, root-adjacent spaces.
The double-ended configuration carries two working angulations on a single handle, giving access to both mesial and distal surfaces without an instrument exchange. This is particularly useful on the distal aspect of last molars, where retromolar access is limited and a pull-stroke, back-action blade can reach and remove bone that a push-stroke chisel cannot safely access.
Clinically, the 36/37 is reserved for periodontal bone recontouring adjacent to teeth and root surfaces rather than the ridge or grafting procedures served by the Gardner, Chandler, and Kramer-Nevins series, and its pull-stroke action should not be substituted with a push-stroke technique. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, autoclavable.
Product Features
- 36/37 Back-Action DE Chisel 3.8 mm removes bone adjacent to the tooth without root trauma using a pull stroke
- Back-action blade geometry is drawn toward the clinician rather than pushed, suited to root-adjacent spaces
- Double-ended design provides mesial and distal working angulations from a single handle
- Especially useful on the distal aspect of last molars where retromolar access is limited
- Reserved for periodontal bone recontouring, distinct from ridge shaving and grafting chisels
- Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
36/37 Back-Action vs Gardner/Chandler/Kramer-Nevins Chisels: The 36/37 is a pull-stroke, double-ended periodontal instrument for bone adjacent to the tooth root, while the Gardner, Chandler, and Kramer-Nevins series are push-stroke instruments for ridge shaving, tooth splitting, and bone grafting. These are not interchangeable techniques.
